There’s no better way to get in the mood for Georgia-Florida week than to look back at the rivalry’s storied past. (Contrary to what some Gators fans believe, that begins way before 1990.)

And one natural result of looking back is thinking about favorite plays. Of course, the two big plays against the hated Gators that always come to mind first for Bulldogs fans are the “Run, Lindsay” touchdown pass from Buck Belue to Lindsay Scott in the 1980 national championship season, and the Richard Appleby-to-Gene Washington fake end-around TD pass from 1975, both of which featured legendary calls by Larry [More]

Let’s get straight to some of this week’s Junkyard Mail. …

Claudia Davis writes: I am so proud of the way Mark Richt and the Dawgs have responded to this [Todd Gurley] controversy, but I would never want to underestimate how important Gurley is to Georgia. I so hope he will be reinstated soon because he is an outstanding player and person who has been taught honesty is always the best answer. What a sad day it will be if we teach our young men that to cover up and to lie is the best way to go. I have an [More]

Ordinarily, you wouldn’t expect a game between the first-place team in the SEC East and the last place team in the SEC West to be considered that close a call, especially when the latter school has a 15-game conference losing streak.

The players are working out in Athens, but otherwise we’re in college football’s summer downtime. Come mid-July, however, the first harbingers of a new season will arrive, including SEC Media Days July 14-17 (UGA takes the spotlight on the last day), and the annual Countdown to Kickoff, organized by Bulldog greats Jon and Matt Stinchcomb and David Greene, which is set for noon to 3 p.m. July 19.

This year, the fan festival will move from its longtime home at the Woodruff Practice Fields to inside Sanford Stadium, which will give the many kids who attend the chance to run around [More]

Fan talk: Offensive line talent, defensive backfield concerns, true silver britches and Jacksonville! (Updated)

Let’s get straight to some of this week’s Junkyard Mail. …

Larry Tucker writes: Bill, Any thoughts on why we seem to miss out on so many O-Line prospects? This year the state is loaded and already the top 5 are committed to out of state schools. When was the last time we have had an O-Lineman go in the first round of the draft?

First of all, Larry, I think it’s way too early to be fretting about the 2015 recruiting class. However, you’re not alone in worrying about how the OL will perform this coming season, particularly considering all [More]
